Too many of us are out of balance. When someone says they are stressed, anxious, or have no bandwidth, they are saying there is a persistent imbalance in their lives. But what causes this imbalance? Too much work and not enough downtime is the quick answer. But when we examine the essence of this imbalance, we realize that the problem runs deeper.
If we look deeper, we realize that things changed 15 years ago. A frenetic pace of work and entertainment became the dominant cultural norm. Too often scrolling through short videos, working longer and longer hours, keeping up with friends about which vacation spot they’ve all been to, or just packing our days with activities to appear busy but enjoying little and nothing.
How much of what we do daily, weekly, monthly is truly what we want to do with our lives? And how much of it is influenced by societal pressures, advertisements, or even someone else’s goals? I came to this realization 10 years ago when I finally admitted people around me weren’t necessarily following practices that benefited all stakeholders. When an organization is influenced by an individual executive’s bonus structure, it can be detrimental to the company.
I compare this with a time when I worked for a holistic and well-run company. I know what it feels like to have values that align with individual goals. The team, the department, the division, and the company work harmoniously aligned with each other. So, when I found myself feeling more like a pinball stuck between two levers, not moving forward but always spinning around in circles, I knew that wasn’t an ideal situation. So, I did what I never thought I would do. I got out of the rat race.
Stepping away from the cray-cray gave me the grace of time to truly see what my reality was and what I wanted my reality to be. I watched YouTube videos about slow living and simplifying my life. Is a simple life possible? And would a simple life lead to balance more often?
I invite you to invest a few minutes daily to take deep breaths, find your center and ponder these questions. Feel stuck? Let’s break through together. Book your complimentary call to explore how coaching can help you move forward: https://L2BAppointments.as.me/IntroWebsite
