Most people are thankful during a thanksgiving holiday or harvest festival. But 10 minutes of daily gratitude practice is like a mental espresso shot. This can improve emotional regulation, mindset, and outlook. A daily gratitude practice can recharge positivity and arm against everyday stress. I started a gratitude practice as described by Shawn Achor and did it daily for 4 months. Afterward, my outlook seamlessly changed, my emotional load lightened dramatically and today, I can recall a quick gratitude exercise whenever I want to combat a hurdle in my day.
You can use a fancy journal or the Notes app on your phone, whatever is most convenient to list 3 new things for which you want to feel grateful.
Today, I am grateful for:
- My warm woolen socks keep my toes warm
- The radiant sunshine brightens my mood
- Two friends dedicated to playing the NY Times Connections game with me
It may soon turn out that these low stakes experiments with potentially high returns give you a whole new perspective on the world around you. Why not try it today?
