I was gripped with anxiety this week…from an overwhelming list of tasks. I attempted to prioritize this list, which can sometimes help. It didn’t help this time. Felt like I was being spun around on a carnival ride.
Luckily, I had a session with my coach friend Jenn who helped me to read between the lines. Yes, coaches coach each other. In a time of change or growth, you may find yourself in a state of ambiguity, confusion, or general vagueness. Firstly, know that these uncertain feelings are normal and even expected. And secondly, know that we may have the answer, or some clues leading to the answer, within us. To uncover these magical answers, learn to listen to your inner voice.
Most of the time when I speak with friends about what is new in their lives, they mention their challenges and then in the next breath, they list some solutions. Sadly, they breeze past these potential resolutions and return to giving more details of their challenges. In unraveling my anxiety, I had identified that an old habit was no longer working for me, but I had not realized how this need was still gripping me. Talking with Jenn helped me to not only latch onto this thread but to go deeper and unravel it to its source. Many of us have the answers within. So why do we not see them?
We are not listening to our wise inner selves. Here are a few ways that may help in tuning into your inner voice:
- Slow down and quiet the mind chatter
- Listen to the quiet inner voice. Is it complaining, shouting, or crying for help?
- Pay attention to your body for emotional signs (racing heart, butterflies in stomach)
- Journal (Morning Pages by Julia Cameron is a writing meditation where you dump your racing thoughts onto paper)
- Take a mindful walk outdoors
Your Inner voice has wisdom. What is it saying to you today?
