Life has a way of throwing us curveballs when we least expect them. This past week brought one of those moments, the passing of Robert Redford, someone I deeply admired. For a few days, I found myself adrift, pulled away from the path I’d been walking with such intention. It’s fascinating how grief, even for someone we’ve never met but who touched our lives, can create such a profound disruption.

But here’s what I’ve learned about these inevitable detours: they’re not defeats, they’re invitations to rediscover where we truly want to go.

When life’s hurly-burly sweeps us off course, the most important thing we can do is gently familiarize ourselves with the path we were on before the storm hit. Not to judge ourselves for straying, but to lovingly guide ourselves home.

I’ve been an inquisitive person for as long as I can remember, always reaching for the next tool, the latest insight, the wisdom of thought leaders who seem to have it all figured out. Perhaps you know this hunger too, that endless search for the magic formula, the five steps that will change everything, the perfect framework that will finally unlock the life you’re meant to live.

These stories of transformation are beautiful, aren’t they? We collect them like precious stones, hoping their gleam will light our way. But here’s the gentle truth I keep returning to, we must ask ourselves not just what worked for others, but whether their lessons align with the unique path we’re carving.

Your life, like mine, is as individual as a fingerprint. We enter this world absorbing the dreams and wisdom of parents, teachers, friends, all the voices that shape our early steps. But eventually, beautifully, we reach that threshold where we begin charting our own course, adapting as the world shifts and changes around us.

As I write these words at week’s end, I find myself reconfirming the path I’ve chosen to travel. And here’s what feels most true: I’m learning to trust both the wisdom of guides who inspire me and the quiet voice of my own instincts. When I encounter a new idea or opportunity these days, I pause and ask my gut: does this feel right? Does this honor who I’m becoming?

This week, that inner compass led me to a beautiful realization. I don’t want to walk this path alone. I need other coaches around me, people who can see where I’m headed and offer both encouragement and loving contradiction when I need it most.

Imagine finding yourself in a dense forest with no clear pathway forward. You could bushwhack alone, certainly. But wouldn’t it be infinitely more meaningful, and yes, more fun, to have companions beside you, sharing the work of clearing the way, each bringing their own unique strength to the journey?

If you’re standing at your own crossroads right now, wondering where you are and where you want to go next, please know this: you don’t have to figure it out alone. Seek out your tribe of fellow travelers. Find those like-minded souls who understand both the destination you’re dreaming of and the courage it takes to get there.

The path forward isn’t about giant leaps or dramatic transformations. It’s about small, intentional experiments. Try something new, pause to see how it feels, then adjust course accordingly. The path reveals itself one step at a time, and it’s always more beautiful when walked with others.

What path are you walking right now? And who would you love to have walking alongside you?
